Project: Stickman Fury
Location: Canada / Remote
Type: Full Time

About the Game

Stickman Fury is a stylized 3D combat-driven fighting game where players take on gangs, bosses, and progress through intense modes. The game focuses on fast, skill-based combat, impactful finishers, and meaningful player progression.

Role Overview

We’re looking for a Game Designer who can both design and implement core gameplay systems, specifically combat and player progression. This is a hands-on role where you will directly shape how the game feels and plays.

You won’t just design systems on paper.

Key Responsibilities

Combat Design & Implementation

  • Design responsive, skill-based melee combat
  • Implement combat systems in-engine (Unreal Engine)
  • Tune combat feel: timing, hit reactions, balancing
  • Design and integrate enemy behaviors and combat interactions
  • Create and iterate on finisher systems tied to player and enemy state

Player Progression Systems

  • Design progression loops (skills, unlockables)
  • Implement skill trees and ability unlock systems
  • Balance risk/reward mechanics across modes (Gauntlet, Wave)
  • Design economy systems (SP, cash, upgrades)
  • Ensure progression enhances skill-based gameplay

Systems & Iteration

  • Rapidly prototype and iterate on gameplay features
  • Work closely with animation and programming to refine feel
  • Playtest, balance, and improve systems based on feedback

Requirements
  • Experience designing combat systems in action or fighting games
  • Ability to implement designs in-engine (Unreal Engine experience strongly preferred)
  • Strong understanding of game feel, timing, and responsiveness
  • Experience with player progression systems (skills, upgrades, economy)
  • Ability to balance mechanics for both challenge and fairness
  • Self-driven and comfortable working in a small indie team
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada

Nice to Have
  • Experience with brawler / arena combat games
  • Familiarity with animation blending, hitboxes, and combat states
  • Experience designing AI combat behaviors
  • Shipped or contributed to a completed game project

What You’ll Work On Immediately
  • Core combat loop
  • Bosses design
  • Skill progression
  • game modes balancing and difficulty scaling
